FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does therapy take?

Sessions are 50 minutes long, and I typically see people weekly or every-other-week. I also offer 80-minute sessions if you feel like you need the additional time. On average, adult clients who come to work with me for grief therapy, trauma therapy and couples therapy stay for 6 months to a year. Some people choose to end therapy sooner, and some stay longer.

The amount of time you’re in therapy will depend on your goals, the severity of your issues or concerns, your financial capacity, the amount of time you have for therapy each week, and how much work you do between sessions to apply your new skills to your day-to-day life.

Do I take insurance?

The only insurance I take is Aetna in Massachusetts. Otherwise, I offer private pay. I provide an efficient way to get money back using an app called Reimbursify. I have used this app for many years and my clients have been reimbursed for tens of thousands of dollars. I am happy to look into your out of network coverage and benefits.

How do I find the right therapist for me?

It may be that you have searched using Google or perhaps you have been given a list of referrals. This might be the first time you have tried therapy or it might be a time when you feel like you want to get back into therapy.

All the same, I admire your willingness to take the plunge. For me, it is all about the right fit. It is often said (and true) that the biggest indicator for positive outcome is the therapeutic relationship. I invite you to schedule a 15-minute phone consultation with me to see if it feels good and right. I can answer your questions and you can decide to move forward or not. It is free with no obligation.

What is trauma therapy for adults?

One of my specialties is working with adults who feel overwhelmed and burned out or feel stuck, unfulfilled and disconnected. In therapy, we will talk about what is driving these feelings. And so much can be tied back to hard experiences in our past when our sense of self was shaped. In our time together you will start to reclaim what was lost: Empowerment, fulfillment, happiness, intimacy, vitality and aliveness. To step into who you really are!

What is it like to do couples therapy with me?

I love working with couples! And I have extensive training and experience. One of the first things I do is to figure out how you two are dancing in your relationship. Is it a pursuer/avoidant dynamic? Or is it like two ships passing in the night?

After we establish that, I can help you dance differently with new tools and skills opening up connection, trust, attraction and fulfillment. I will also help you work with old family of origin dynamics and patterns from previous relationships that create stress, misunderstanding and unhappiness with your current partner.

What is grief counseling like?

I have offered grief counseling for many years. And people have come to me for all kinds of reasons: Death of a child, spouse, sibling, parent. Often, they just want to be heard, understood and a safe place to process their feelings (overwhelm, disbelief, shock, anger, grief, depression, stress, isolation). Every client need is unique. If you are interested in learning more about what grief counseling, I would recommend setting up a time with me to connect and talk.
